That was my son’s favorite scene.

Meh. It was alright. Star Wars is starting to feel MCU-ish, and MCU has gotten pretty formulaic and boring.
It checked all the Star Wars boxes and that was about it.

Watched it Christmas Eve morning. I loved it.
It’s awesome to see Vader as a badass again. The scene with Director Krennic literally brought tears of joy to my eyes. The end scene was even better.

I thought it blew Ep. VII out of the water on so many levels. Loved the nods to Ep. IV, wasn’t crazy about the Tarkin CG, but it worked, great score by Giacchino. The scene at the end with Vader was brutal, but it was fantastic. I didn’t expect to see Leia’s ship escaping at the end of the battle. I may even go see it again.

It kicked the shit out of Ep. VII. It was nice to see a war actually portrayed as a war.

SPOILERS FOLLOW
Ep. VII was pretty cookie cutter, but it at least made me interested in the characters. The ending of Rogue One would’ve been sad if I cared about any of the characters. Instead they tried to shove a bunch of characters in without really fleshing out any of them, and therefore I didn’t really care that they all died. It also felt very rushed, although Ep. VII had that problem too.
Basically, I think both of them fall short of the original trilogy.

I grew to like Jyn, and I truly cared that she and Cassian died at the end. I thought it was sad, yet also appropriate. I’ve read others who say that the characters weren’t fleshed out, but, short of making a 4-hour movie, I’m not sure what else they could have done. I enjoyed the references to things seen in Ep IV, and didn’t think they felt forced. I was relatively bored with VII, but was hooked on this one throughout, though it did take a while to get going.

The end was the best in the series - 4, 5 and 7 were good, this might be better. All of daddy’s work to protect her ends up killing her... honestly a true tragedy. And it rehabilitates Vader - he is the f’n bad a$$ we all knew he was.

What I liked about the hallway scene with Vader is that it shows him as the true evil bastard he’s supposed to be. Even in Ep III (?) when he wiped out the Jedi Temple (still as Ani), the barbarity was only hinted at and not really shown.
When Ep I came out, everybody was excited, but there was no way to put the magic of Ep IV (back in 1977) back in the bottle. Even though I liked Ep VII, it still never had the feeling of excitement and awe that we all felt back in the day. However, Rogue 1 came very close. It was familiar, we saw some old friends, but it was also brand new.
